Field Work

We have now completed four field plots and used destructive sampling to cut down the woody vegetation of three of them. Students are enjoying measuring, cutting, and weighing the woody vegetation. They have also learned how to identify the trees and shrubs down to the species level. We will later use the data for assessing the biomass for each plot, which will allow us to estimate the total biomass for the entire farm.

Margaret measuring the weight of an Acacia mellifera (which bites)

Here, Lily and Erin enjoy their break from field work by being goofy

We are visiting the San Cultural Center in D'kar in the morning, stay tuned for a post with highlights tomorrow!!
