Fieldwork!

After practicing field techniques this weekend, we set out this morning to tackle our first two vegetation plots! Split up into two groups, we collected structural measurements of trees and shrubs, estimated ground cover, and took canopy readings.

After lunch we had an introduction lecture to the history, politics, and economy of Botswana. Did you know that Botswana is home to the world's richest gem-quality diamond mine? We also went on our first town run into Ghanzi to restock on any necessary supplies.

Kori recording data in the field.

Working in teams, we knocked out vegetation regrowth measurements for our first two plots today.

Does anyone know what type of insect this is? Comment below with your answers!

  1. Hey to Jack!! Whatever you do, do NOT touch any juices from that beetle, alive or dead, until you make sure it is not an African Blister Beetle!! Hope everyone is doing well and you have a great trip!
